Call for Proposals: NECET Annual Conference Series

Information for Contributors:

The NECET conference series explores the interface between existential philosophy, psychotherapy, society and related disciplines. The annual 4 part NECET conference series is organized around existential and phenomenological lenses on clinical practice so that individual paper proposals are considered in this context. Once a paper proposal is accepted the Steering Committee works actively with presenters to shape all papers and panels, including both format and respondents. Proposal submissions on particular topics are encouraged, but this does not necessarily mean that it will be presented in original format. Unlike other conferences where the submitted proposal if accepted is presented in original form, proposers are invited to describe a topic of inquiry, its significance and how it would relate to a possible overarching theme related to existential praxis. Once accepted the topic/paper would be further developed in coordination with a series as a whole.

 

  • Eligibility Criteria:

    The Steering Committee is committed to increasing and widening participation in NECET training programs and will aim for a mix of member diversity in conference series including already-known presenters and those who are earlier in their career or have not participated recently or previously at NECET. Those submitting a paper must be active NECET members and maintain membership dues at the time of submission and presentation. Respondents may be NECET members or may be affiliated with other local educational, institute or practice settings.

  • Submission Deadline:

    Proposals should be sent to the Steering Committee by June 1st and will be considered for inclusion in the conference series in the upcoming academic year or proceeding training years depending on alignment with overarching themes. Proposals can be submitted electronically to the Steering Committee for review. Please email submissions to rjfreid@comcast.net.

  • Submission Review Process:

    All proposals will be reviewed by the Steering Committee for quality and for alignment with upcoming teaching foci. As ethical guidelines indicate, Committee Members will recuse themselves from decision making when a dual role supersedes an educational evaluative role. Proposals may be selected for the upcoming training year and/or for possible future series.

  • Submission Formalization:

    Final decisions for inclusion and panel configurations for each training year are made by July 1st following the annual Steering Committee retreat. Upon invitation, presenters are invited to review the presenter contract and confirm participation in the training series within a two week period.

  • Paper Submission Format:

    Proposals should include presenter name, contact information, professional bio, a suggested title and a 750-word summary of the proposed paper.

  • References, Diversity, & Inclusion:

    NECET encourages presenters to ask themselves whether there might be significant but under-recognized papers or books by women philosophers, or theorists from other under-represented groups and cultures, that can be included in the course of writing their papers and/or assembling their bibliographies.
